JLR cyberattack halts production across UK sites

jlr cyberattack halts production

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer, has confirmed a major cyberattack that has forced the suspension of production across its key facilities, including Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton. The incident, which began in late August, has led to a complete shutdown of the company’s IT systems, severely disrupting manufacturing and retail operations.

The cyberattack, described by experts as one of the most financially damaging in UK history, has prompted JLR to extend its production halt until at least the beginning of October. The company is currently working with third-party cybersecurity specialists and law enforcement agencies to investigate the breach and restore operations safely.

According to BBC News, the UK business secretary and industry minister have visited the West Midlands to meet with JLR and affected supply chain firms. Concerns are growing that some suppliers may face insolvency without urgent support, as the ripple effects of the attack continue to impact thousands of businesses.

JLR has not disclosed the nature of the cyber-attack, but the scale of disruption suggests a sophisticated and targeted breach. The company’s dealer network has also been affected, with systems offline and vehicle registrations delayed. Staff across multiple sites have been instructed to stay at home while forensic investigations continue.

This incident highlights the growing threat of cyber-attacks to critical infrastructure and manufacturing operations and highlights the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and contingency planning.
